Special Topics in Studio Arts: Ideas and Issues: Reproductive Media in Contemporary Art

This seminar course provides the opportunity for students of various studio practices to discuss changing issues in theory/practice. Visual material, directed readings, exhibition visits, and invited speakers will be determined by the special topic.
Objectives
- Learn about theories that relate to reproduction as a concept, a process and a product
- Exposure to historical examples of reproductive media in contemporary art
- Learn about technical developments that have influenced reproductive media
- Critically think about appropriation as it exists and has been embodied over time
- Learn how to cite and/or credit artworks in the creation of new works of art
- Becoming aware of some of the basic tenants of copyrights for artists
- Develop opinions about the concepts of genius, truth and authenticity as they relate to the artist
- Explore the ways of seeing that have changed over time and the value of the artwork as these changes occurred
